The Team

Gary Rogers

Gary has been an active surfer since 1974.

Gary travelled up to the North East Coast in 1977 to find work and sampled Saltburn-by-the-Sea for the first time in the Sol-y-Mar surf contest. Seeing the true surfing potential the East Coast had to offer, Gary decided to stay. Setting up a mobile surf hire shop in 1986 on the Lower Promenade, ‘The Saltburn Open’ began, an annual surf contest open to all abilities and usually held in September.

Gary has been an active competitive surfer throughout the years, competing in many British and world championships including the ‘Puerto Rico World Championships’ in 2005, coming 13th! He has also competed in many longboarding competitions and achieved 2nd place in the British Longboarding Championships in 2007.

Gary is still very keen and active who surfs daily depending on the conditions. He will always maintain his go-for-it attitude, ventures into the unknown and can be seen charging from knee-high to triple overhead waves.

Interesting facts:

• Made his first three wetsuits!

• Crowned British champion in 2004

• Refused a helicopter ride to hospital after a lucky escape on an East Coast reef!

• Taught people to surf for 25 years

Evan Rogers

Evan or ‘Ev’ started surfing since the age of 7 years old, taught by his dad ‘Gary’.

Evan is also an active competitive surfer who likes nothing more than to charge local competitions and compete in British, Welsh and international championships including the European Championships in Morocco, winning silver medal in the junior longboard. In 2007, Evan achieved the Welsh Junior Longboard title. With a multi disciplined skill, he has been crowned British Champion twice! Once on a shortboard for the under 12s and the other on a longboard for the under 18s in 2007.

Evan has travelled extensively across the globe to seek out world famous surf breaks. This includes Snapper Rocks, Bells Beach, Margaret River in Australia, Raglan in New Zealand, Hawaii’s North Shore, Malibu in California, Uluwatu and Lakey Peak in Indonesia and Anchor Point in Morocco. With regular visits to South West France, Evan likes nothing more than to surf with his friends on his home breaks of the North East Coast with the cheeky trip north to Thurso East.
